The story of Jam Rayadhan in English
જામ રાયઘણ
[Samvat 1231 to 1271]
Yogi's promise
Soon after the death of Jam Lakha Jadani, his brother Lakhiyar also attained Devlok and Lakhiyar Veera's throne was ascended by Lakhiyar Jam's son Raydhan. At this time, Jam Raydhan was young. The Jats used to attack him frequently. Since the army of the Jats had now become strong, the Samas could not successfully confront them. Fed up with the daily harassment of the Jats, Jam Raydhan finally thought of abandoning Lakhiyar Veera. So one day he left Lakhiyar Veera with all his possessions and started living on a big hill on the road to Banni.*
At this time, an ascetic yogi Mahatma named Garibnath lived in Bhadli. One day after his death, his disciple was going for alms, when those Jat people mocked him, not only that, but also mistreated him. The disciple returned from there, and sat in front of his Guru's tomb and began to perform very severe penance without taking food or water. On the third day, a voice came from his Guru's tomb.
The proud poor Nath, who has come to make a sound, the kunda is making a curry, the royal kingdom of the gods.
* This hill is still known as Rayadhandhua.
Meaning: The voice of the great Garibnathji was heard, saying, "I will remove the wicked Jat people and give the kingdom of Kutch to Jam Raidhan."
Hearing the words of the Guru, the disciple's joy was over. That same day, he reached Jam Raidhana on the Raidhana River. And informed him of the whole incident. This gave new courage to Jam Raidhana's heart. He started trying to gather his strength. As soon as his army became strong, he started preparing to attack the Jatas. Once again, the mighty Jatas and the Sama chiefs had to go into battle. Since the Sama chiefs were extremely enthusiastic, the Jatas' vigor immediately broke and the Sama army was victorious. The Jat people had to flee to save their lives. The kingdom of lakhs of warriors was again in the hands of Jam Raidhana.
Jam Raidhan consolidated his power in a short time. The Jats who used to mock him now started kissing his feet.
There, four sons, mighty like the wheels of the gods, were born to Jam Rayadhan.*

* Jam Raydhan had a fifth illegitimate son named Poylo. He inherited the villages of Judbha and Kunab in the Grasslands.
Having reached there with the help of Prithuraj, Rayadhan Jam has made his name famous by displaying unparalleled valor.
Later, when Shahabuddin Ghori defeated Prithu Raj and started taking notice of all those who helped him, he sent an army to Kutch to attack Jam Raidhan as well. Jam Raidhan was called upon to give a sacrifice or to fight. Jam Raidhan had now fully gathered his strength. He immediately gathered his army and got ready to face the Ghori army.
This time, the Jats also came to the aid of Jam Rayadhan in large numbers. In this battle, Jam Rayadhan, with great bravery and skill, defeated the Gori army and expelled them from Kutch.
In this battle with the Gori army, Karan Samana Kunwar Raib and his son Deshal, who had come from Sindh with Jam Lakha, showed great bravery. Raib, who fought side by side in the same battle, finally came into play.

Rayadhan's army defeated the Gori army and returned with the banner of Nobat. In return for the valor shown by Karan Sama's son Rayab in this battle, Rayadhan Jam rewarded his sons by granting them large estates.
Jam Rayadhan's fortunes were now beginning to decline. Little by little, he took over a large part of the land of Kutch. The praises of Jam Rayadhan began to ring throughout the country.
Jam Rayadhan used to wear a red patch on his turban while going on a battlefield, hence he became famous as 'Ratta Rayadhan'.
God Mother
In Sindh-Nagarsamai, Jam Lakha Dhurara, with whose blessings he had defeated the royal army, was the son of Matang Dev, in the lineage of this time. Matai Dev was also a capable man like his ancestors. Many kings yearned for his blessings. Matai Dev, while going from Sindh to Junagadh, came to Jam Rayadhan in Lakhiyar Veera in 1200 AD. Jam Rayadhan treated Matai Dev with great respect and requested him to stay in Lakhiyar Veera for a few days. (V.S. 1256)
Once, Jam Raidhan, along with his four sons and Mother Dev, went out for a horse ride. While traveling, they came to a place called Traijar* near Raidhanpur. Since this place was considered a holy place of pilgrimage, everyone got down from their horses, had a look at that holy place and sat down to take some rest.
Dedo, Otho, Gajan, Chotho, Hothi, Char, Rayadhanani, Achi, Vittha, Treijar.
* There are three traps and one hut in the northeast corner of Bhuj. And there is a cemetery around it. This ancient historical place is famous by the name of Traijar.
Meaning: The four sons of Jam Rayadhan, Dedo, Otho, Gajan and Hothi, as if they were Jam, sat at the place of this three-legged mother.
Matai Dev started telling Jam Raidhan and his four sons about the ancient history of this holy place. Knowing that such a beautiful opportunity would not come again, Jam Raidhan requested Marta Dev to bless his four sons. Jam Raidhan's radiant Matai Dev blessed his four sons, saying, 'All four of you will become Jams.'
Everyone was happy with the blessings of Matai Dev. But Rayadhan Jam thought that if these four people became equal, they would not be able to remain without quarreling with each other. Therefore, he requested Matai Dev and said, 'God, just as you made these four brothers into a Jam, also make the estates of these four separate, so that in the future they will not have any occasion to clash with each other.' This advice of Jam also seemed right to the Dev. He started observing the faces of these four brothers to test their inner selves. In this test, he found the elder brother's mind to be arrogant. He saw treachery in Gajan's mind. He saw distrust in the heart of Hothi. Only the mind of one Otha was found to be pure and sincere. Thus, after testing the hearts of these four brothers, Matai Dev distributed their wealth as follows:
The father ate Kanthagarh, the father was twelve, the father was a hundred thousand warriors, the father crossed the great mountain.
Meaning: He gave Kanthakot to Mota Deda. He gave twelve bonds to Hothi. He gave lakhs of warriors to Otha, and he gave twelve mighty men to Gajan.
This division of the land by Mart Dev seemed appropriate to Raidhan Jam as well. But since it still required the determination of the boundaries and limits, he requested the Dev to do so. Mart Dev, after thinking about it, also determined the boundaries of these four brothers.
Gajanji, who was born in a village of twelve, was a great man, and he was a great man.
Meaning: The region from Vehar Dungar towards Aathmati belonged to Gajan, the twelve villages at Bandra Head belonged to Hothi, the region behind Sikra belonged to Deda, and the entire remaining part belonged to Otha Jam. This was how it was divided.
This division made the elder brother unhappy. Since he was the eldest, he should have got the throne of Lakhiyar Veera, but instead he got the end of the Kachchha. So, with the intention of creating a new obstacle in the division, he told Matai Dev, 'It is our rule that all four brothers should have darshan of Rudra Mata on the eighth and fourteenth days. But since this division takes me far away, I will not be able to come for darshan of Rudra Mata every eighth and fourteenth day like others. Therefore, arrangements need to be made so that my rule is not hindered.'
Haidakumar's feelings were not unknown to Marte Dev. Praising Dedakumar's future, he showed him a new path. He instructed Deda to worship Ravechi Mata, Gajan to worship Ashapura, Hothi to worship Habai Mata and Otha to worship Rudramata. In this way, Matai Dev also assigned different goddesses to these four brothers and expected them to offer offerings on the Treijar every year. In addition, he forbade burning coal on Haba Dungar and ringing bells on Jampariya Dungar, saying, 'As long as you follow these instructions, no one will get a bad shock.' He patted Otha Kumar on the back and said, 'Even if the other three brothers forget my instructions, you should remember my words and continue to act in the same way.' In this way, Jam Rayadhan blessed the four sons and fixed the limits of their inheritance. After a few days, Matai Dev set out for Junagadh.
Jam Rayadhan became a god in 1271 BC.
